Walter Sawka
Walter has been using Black & White photography as his medium for artistic expression since the fall of 1988, after having seen a publication of Black & White images created by Ansel Adams. Walter has studied with photographic masters: John Sexton, Howard Bond, Dan Anderson, Ray McSavaney, Fred Picker, and Bruce Barnbaum. He maintains that one of his best teachers was and remains, practice, practice, practice ...
Walter processes all his images himself, using well established methods for archival black and white printing. The finished prints are mounted on high quality archival museum rag mats, for extended longevity. He personally handles every step of the creative process, from developing the negative, to creating the finished print, and then on to matting, and framing. He is a great believer of the 'Zone System' first articulated by Ansel Adams, and he matches the development of the negatives to suit the exposure and contrast. He is now working in the digital format to supplement the wet darkroom. Walter is well versed in Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe Bridge and Adobe Lightroom.
To Walter, photography is much more than a hobby; it is a passion. He strives to channel his love for the outdoors into images that speak about the environment. Walter aims to share his love of the land by showing these images to you the viewer.
